Repair or replace
When we say repair, and when we say replace
One rule: if fixing the roof would cost more than half of a new one, you're better off with a new one. Under half, we fix it.
1/2
of a new roof's price is where we'd tell you to replace

How we work it out
Three prices on one page
You see every number we used, so you can check our math or take it to someone else.
The repair
What it takes to stop this leak and the ones we can see coming, written line by line.
A new roof
What the whole roof would cost, with the same kind of materials, written the same way.
Half of the new roof
The line. If the repair is under it, we repair. If it's over it, we say replace, and we say why.

Questions about replacing
Do you replace roofs too?
Yes, small ones: porches, additions, garages and small homes, written the same way as a repair. For a large roof we'll tell you, and you may want a second quote.
Is half of the price a hard line?
It's our starting point. If the roof is old and the repair is just under half, we'll say that a new roof may be the better buy, and let you choose.
Can I repair now and replace later?
Often, yes. We'll tell you what to watch for and roughly how long the repair should hold, with its limits, so you can plan.
Not sure which one yours is?
Text a photo of the roof and one of the stain. We'll tell you which way it leans.
